pochoir is another word for fine art stencilling - which was so called in the
‘art nouveau’ period in France as a way to reproduce colour illustration
and was a technique used by MATISSE in some of his ‘Jazz’ series work and
also by australian artist MARGARET PRESTON especially in her later work like ‘rock lilies’.

The designs by Julie Hickson use a fine art stencilling technique. Sometimes known as ‘pochoir’,
the stencil is placed over a canvas or paper and then hand painted in acrylic paint.
Each canvas is a unique limited edition in that design and is numbered for authenticity.

podandpod has sprouted a few series so far including australian botanicals,
australian coastals, kitchen pods, and my pods with plans for more.
our inspiration has been this quote on the fridge -
“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.”
